WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-WA) today released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day, observed on Monday, May 27, 2019.

“On Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women who have lost their lives in service to the United States of America.  It shows a great strength of character to serve in the military, and I have tremendous respect for all those who have served our country.

“As Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, I will continue to work on behalf of our servicemembers and their families to ensure they receive the support, services, and respect they’ve earned.  I will also continue efforts to ensure all people who are qualified and willing can serve free from discrimination.  Today we are united in honoring those who have served and have sacrificed to preserve our freedom.”
