Washington, D.C. – Today, House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) made the following statement about the appointment of Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) as vice ranking member of the Committee:

“I am pleased to announce that Congressman Beto O’Rourke will serve as Vice Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee for the 115thCongress,” said Smith. “He has worked thoughtfully and tirelessly to improve U.S. national security during his service on the Committee, and I know he will continue to do so in this new role.” 

“I'm grateful to my colleagues for selecting me for this leadership position,” said O’Rourke. “I look forward to working with Chairman Thornberry, Ranking Member Smith, and the members of the Committee to help advance our national security interests and support our service members.”
