WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response to Representative John Garamendi (D-Calif.) announcing he has been diagnosed with early-stage multiple myeloma and is undergoing treatment.
“My thoughts and heart go out to John and his family, especially his wife Patti and their children, as he undergoes cancer treatment. Knowing the depth of his strength and his true fighting-spirit I am certain that he will literally tackle this challenge and overcome it as he has with so many other obstacles. If anyone can beat cancer, it’s John.
“His tireless work on behalf of his constituents and his service as the Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee and to his country have been exemplary. I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to our continued work together on behalf of the House Armed Services Committee.”
