Washington, DC – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) released the following statement today after Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Marty Meehan (D-MA) announced his nomination to be the next Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell:

“Congressman Marty Meehan is one of the most able members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  His energy and intellect have contributed much to our work on the House Armed Services Committee, and he has served the people of Massachusetts and our country with great distinction.

As chairman of the newly re-established Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Marty has distinguished himself by his constructive and bipartisan approach.  Although I regret the fact that the House Armed Services Committee will be losing such a talented and tireless member and subcommittee chairman, I am grateful that he plans to continue to devote himself to public service.

I wish Marty all the best as the Trustees of the University of Massachusetts Lowell consider his nomination.  He will be missed in Congress, but I am confident that in his new role Marty will bring an energy and enthusiasm that will inspire generations of students at his alma mater.”
