Washington D.C. – Congressman Adam Smith, Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee and member of the Benghazi Select Committee, made the following statement after the capture of Ahmed Abu Khattala:
“I congratulate the brave men and women of our armed forces and their counterparts at the FBI for the successful raid to capture Ahmed Abu Khattala. I also applaud the President for following through on his promise to bring those responsible for the attack in Benghazi to justice. While others involved in the attack are still at large, the capture of Khattala sends a chilling message to his associates and all those who seek to attack Americans: we will find you and we will bring you to justice.
“The attack on the U.S. facility in Benghazi was a national tragedy. As we celebrate the capture of Khattala, we should also reflect on the Americans who died in the attack. Serving America is not always easy or safe, but it is necessary. I am thankful for all of the brave Americans who put their lives on the line every day to ensure our national security.”
