Washington D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith, who recently concluded a Congressional oversight trip to Africa, will give a speech on Thursday, July 12 at 8:30 a.m. at The American Security Project on the growing national security challenges in Africa and what the U.S. strategy should look like moving forward.

Ranking Member Smith recently returned from a trip to Kenya to assess efforts to combat Al Shabaab and AQAP, and to Uganda to assess efforts to root out Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army. This travel, coupled with Smith’s role on the House Armed Services Committee and previous travel to the region, has provided the Ranking Member with unique insights into our foremost national security challenges throughout Africa and the Middle East.
