WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day.

“On Memorial Day, we solemnly honor the service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the security and strength our country endures.

“Our gratitude should not only be expressed on this hallowed day, but every day. We must never take for granted those who wear the uniform of the United States and pledge to fight and die for our freedom and democratic ideals. 

“To all who have given their lives in service, and their loved ones who have also sacrificed for our freedoms, we say thank you.”
