WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after President Donald Trump signed H.R. 3838, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26 NDAA), into law.

“The signing of the FY26 NDAA into law ensures the Armed Services Committees’ bipartisan work to support service members, strengthen our national defense, and deliver the most significant acquisition reforms in a generation.

“I want to thank Chairman Rogers, Chairman Wicker, Ranking Member Reed, and all those who worked on this legislation to ensure that we in Congress can continue to fulfill our duty to help provide for the common defense.

“While this legislation includes provisions I opposed, the FY26 NDAA is a testament to the longstanding bipartisan tradition of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees to improve the quality of life of service members and their families and ensure service members get the resources they need when they need them to protect our national security and national defense.”
