MUNICH, Germany – Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference.
“My meeting yesterday with President Zelenskyy underscored the urgent need for Speaker Johnson to immediately bring to the House floor the Senate-passed foreign aid supplemental that includes support for Ukraine.
“President Zelenskyy made clear that the Ukrainian people will continue to stand strong in their unbending resolve to defend themselves against Putin’s brutal and unlawful invasion. But for Ukrainians to succeed, survive, and keep Putin’s autocratic wave from sweeping into neighboring countries, they must have the means to fight back.
“Providing Ukraine those means is something that the majority in Congress and the American people wholeheartedly support. Speaker Johnson has the opportunity and responsibility to secure American national security interests by allowing the Senate-passed security supplemental to pass the House. He should bring it up for a vote without further delay.”
