WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that the following House Democrats will serve on a House and Senate conference committee for the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Leader Jeffries was joined by Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Democrats, in the announcement.

“The yearly NDAA is a must-pass investment in our men and women in uniform and in our national security. Unfortunately, this year extreme MAGA Republicans in the House hijacked what was historically a bipartisan process to once again jam their right-wing ideology down the throats of everyday Americans. House Democrats will always put People Over Politics to protect the safety and security of the American people and will also continue to stand up against extremism wherever and whenever necessary. I am grateful to Ranking Member Adam Smith for his leadership and confident in the abilities of our Democratic conferees to continue working toward the responsible NDAA our service members deserve,” said Leader Jeffries.

“For over 60 years, the NDAA has served as the foundation for our national security priorities. The bipartisan bill that was easily passed out of the committee earlier this year invested in the core of our national defense by focusing on our service members and their families, innovation and technology, allies and partners, and our defense industrial base and military readiness. The bill as amended, however, has allowed extreme MAGA Republicans to further their bigoted agenda for the benefit of their campaign coffers and at the expense of our national defense and those who serve. I look forward to working with Leader Jeffries and the Democratic House and Senate conferees to ensure the NDAA remains focused on our national security, national defense, and those who bravely wear the uniform of the United States,” said Ranking Member Smith.
