Purpose: The subcommittee will meet to receive testimony on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 President’s Budget Request for Department of Defense’s Science and Technology (S&T) programs; activities; infrastructure; and policies, including alignment with national strategies and interagency efforts, to maintain technological superiority. Additionally, the hearing will provide members an opportunity to examine the roles, responsibilities and authorities of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, and the Military Departments’ Assistant Secretaries responsible for research, technology, and development, in accordance with Title 10, United States Code. The subcommittee will focus on their responsibility to lead a robust science and technology ecosystem of agencies; offices; laboratories; federally funded research and development centers; university affiliated research centers; academic partnerships; test and evaluation entities; and partnerships with the private sector, to include small businesses, to deliver the best capabilities to the warfighter in the near, mid, and long-term.
