Washington, D.C. – Today, House Armed Services Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) released the following statement on the passing of former House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ron Dellums (D-CA):

“I extend my condolences at the passing of former House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ron Dellums. He was a powerful advocate for human rights and progressive politics in U.S. national security, and a tireless supporter of our men and women in uniform. His advocacy of many measures, including the first twentieth-century override of a Presidential veto on a foreign policy issue—the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986—asserted Congress’s constitutional role in ensuring that U.S. foreign policy reflects our values. His contributions will be missed.”
