Washington D.C. – Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee disavowed pleas from the Chief of Naval Operations and moved forward with a plan that will undermine the Navy, place undue hardship on Sailors and their families and reduce competition within the shipbuilding industrial base.
The Chief of Naval Operations sent a letter articulating that damage that will be caused by section 1023 in the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee Mark.
The letter stated: “This change would create affordability and executability challenges as well as added strain on the shipbuilding industrial base, Sailors and their families……This could lead to revocation of Sailor’s orders, causing undue strain and uncertainty on Sailors and their families”
Republicans on the committee voted down an amendment provided by Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee Ranking Member, Joe Courtney, which would have mitigated the concerns articulated by the Chief of Naval Operations and required the Navy to continue executing the modernization plan created by Congress last year.
