WASHINGTON, DC  – Today Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and Rep. Solomon Ortiz (D-TX), Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee, issued the following statement commending the Department of Defense for electing to conduct a comprehensive review of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) and halting further employee conversions until that review is concluded.

Skelton and Ortiz sent a letter to DOD in February recommending these actions. The letter can be found on the committee’s website: www.house.gov/hasc

“We are pleased that DOD heard our recommendations and has halted the conversion of additional employees into the National Security Personnel System pending a comprehensive system review.  We encourage DOD to conduct this review as expeditiously as possible in order to minimize the period of uncertainty for all DOD civilian employees.”
