Washington, DC – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) applauded the U.S. House of Representatives’ overwhelming approval of H.R. 1538, the Wounded Warriors Assistance Act of 2007.  H.R. 1538 was approved in the House by a vote of 426 to 0.

            “Americans were outraged and embarrassed by the problems uncovered at Walter Reed Army Medical Center because they expect our government to do right by those who have sacrificed so much on behalf of our country.  The swift consideration of this legislation by the House of Representatives brings us closer to making the reforms that will break down the bureaucratic roadblocks complicating the recovery of our wounded and injured service members,” said Skelton.
 
            “I am proud that this bill is a product of a strong bi-partisan effort to support our troops. In the days ahead, the House Armed Services Committee will move beyond this first step by continuing to examine other comprehensive reforms that may be needed to ensure that our forces receive the high quality care our nation has an obligation to provide,” said Skelton.
