Washington, D.C. – Today, House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) made the following statement about new revelations that the former National Security Adviser had been given $45,000 from a Russian propaganda network, $11,250 from a Russian charter cargo airline, and $11,250 from a top Russia-based cybersecurity corporation in addition to his retroactive admission that he served as a paid agent for the Turkish government during the election campaign:

“These revelations raise additional questions about whether the White House knew it was inviting an individual who’d been paid by instruments of the Russian government into one of our most sensitive national security positions. It is essential that Congress and the American people know how President Trump handled an issue that put our country’s interests in jeopardy. The administration must provide Congress with information about whether General Flynn fully disclosed these payments and his communication with Russian agents, Turkish agents, or other foreign agents as part of his security clearance process for review.”

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Elijah Cummings (D-MD) sent a letter to the administration today requesting this information and requesting that the government recoup any payments made in violation of the Emoluments Clause.
