WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-Wash.) released the following statement in remembrance of the 25^th anniversary of the September 11^th terrorist attacks. 

“Each year, we pause to remember the sacrifice and heroism displayed in response to the devastating terrorist attacks in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001.

 “We remember the bravery of dedicated first responders and courageous everyday Americans, including the passengers on United Flight 93 who valiantly fought back and prevented their hijacked plane from reaching its intended target. We remember the ongoing toll suffered by first responders and their families in the decades since. We honor the bravery and selflessness of service members and their families who continue to make sacrifices for our national security.

 “We also look ahead at what should be done to honor our heroes and protect our country. Our commitment to partners and allies should be renewed in honor of the lives lost and impacted on 9/11 and since that day. That includes partners and allies who willingly supported U.S. operations at great cost. It is in our best interests to continue to work with them to strengthen our national defense and ensure democracy endures at home and around the world.”
