Washington , DC – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton released the following statement in response to the Pentagon’s release of a study entitled “Defense Acquisition Transformation.”  Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Kenneth J. Krieg held a press conference today to discuss the study, which was mandated by Section 804 of the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 and originated in the House version of the bill.

“We have received the report from Secretary Krieg on defense acquisition transformation which was required by the House Armed Services Committee in our bill last year.  I am continuing to review the report, but it appears that the Department of Defense has taken note of the concerns repeatedly expressed by this committee that significant changes are needed in the defense acquisition system.  I’m pleased that Secretary Krieg and the Department now have a ‘sense of urgency’, as they put it in the report, and are determined to take action.  I will work closely with them to solve as many problems with the acquisition system as we can this year and going forward.”
