WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the House of Representatives continues to organize for the 111th Congress, Members of the House Armed Services Committee selected Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-CA) to serve as Chairwoman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel.

“I am honored that my colleagues continue to place their faith and trust in me for this important position,” said Davis.  “With our troops committed to two wars, military personnel issues are front and center.  I look forward to furthering our work on the critical needs of our servicemembers and their families.”

The subcommittee’s jurisdiction includes military health care, recruitment and retention, and military education.  In the 110th Congress, the subcommittee focused on preventive health care, tuition assistance for military spouses, and a military version of the family and medical leave law.

A member of the Armed Services Committee since 2001, Davis will continue to serve on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

Davis will also begin her fifth term as a member of the House Education and Labor Committee.  She maintained her roles on the subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education and the subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness.
