Washington D.C. House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith released the following statement after the Administration announced that it will prosecute suspected terrorist Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame in the Federal Court System:

“I support the Administration’s decision to prosecute suspected terrorist Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame in the U.S. federal court system - a system of justice that has successfully prosecuted more than 400 defendants in international terrorism-related cases since September 11th, 2001.

“It is important that the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice work closely together, and I am pleased to see that effective coordination is taking place. As we have seen over the last ten years, conflicts of this nature can give rise to some complex legal issues that overlap multiple layers of jurisdiction. The Justice Department has a leading role to play in resolving these issues.”
