Lexington,  Missouri -- House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) released the following statement on today’s presidential election in Afghanistan:

" I congratulate the people of Afghanistan on their second presidential election.  Although there have been reports of sporadic violence and possibly low turnout in some areas, holding an election in a time of war and in the face of terrorist threats shows true determination and resolve.

"While we wait for the results of the election, I know all Americans join me in hoping that the results produce the government the Afghan people deserve, dedicated to fighting terrorism and corruption and building a new, free and prosperous Afghanistan."
