Washington D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith will give a speech on the future of U.S.-Russia relations this Friday, September 21, 2012 at Center for American Progress. This speech comes at an important time for U.S.-Russia relations.  Economic talks at the APEC summit in Vladivostok recently concluded, the question of extending permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) to Russia sits before Congress, Iranian nuclear ambitions remain a threat, the conflict in Syria continues, and the Administration examines possible further nuclear force reductions to implement the Nuclear Posture Review.

As Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Representative Smith oversees a wide range of foreign policy issues related to our force posture, our military presence in Europe and Asia, and strategic and regional stability. This work gives him a unique perspective on the future of the U.S.-Russian relationship.
