Washington, D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) released the following statement after Congressman Bill Owens (D-N.Y.) was elected to serve on the House Armed Services Committee:

“I extend a warm welcome to Congressman Bill Owens of New York, who will be joining the House Armed Services Committee during the 111 th Congress. Congressman Owens continues the 23 rd Congressional District of New York’s history of representation on the committee, which will allow him to be strong advocate for the Army soldiers and families at Fort Drum.

“In addition to his seat on the full committee, Congressman Owens will serve on the Air and Land Forces Subcommittee and the Strategic Forces Subcommittee.  I’m confident Congressman Owens will discover he has joined one of the best committees in Congress, and I look forward to working with him in the committee’s efforts to support our men and women in uniform and protect U.S. national security.”
